This collection includes an octavo volume, kept by Charlotte Ann Bruce (1819- ), which contains the rules of the Newton Female Academy, as well as a list of students and their hometowns for the years 11839 to 1844. The volume also contains student lists for Keene Academy (Keene, N.H.), Hadley Seminary (Hadley, Mass.), and Fulton Female Seminary (Fulton Co., N.Y.). There is a letter of appreciation written by Charlotte Ann Bruce to her teachers in 1838. The manuscript box contains four folders, three consisting of real-estate valuation lists for the town of Newton from 1749 to 1785, with several lists including provincial/state, county, town, and parish taxes. The other folder contains various legal documents, for the period 1754 to 1869, such as provincial, town, and county assessment warrants, a list of Newton Anabaptists in 1761, and several warrants for town meetings with an agenda included (e.g., directions to their representatives in 1765 concerning the Stamp Act). The folder also includes several land surveys conducted by Abraham Fuller (1719-1794), a deed from Noah Wiswell (1699?-1786) to the town for a common pond, a license for keeping a dog, arrest warrants, deeds, several tax bills of Joseph Mills ( - ) for his stagecoach, and a precint tax book for 1785 listing poll, property, personal, and parish taxes.
